On a trip to Europe a few years ago I took photo of this field. It had long shadows crossing it from trees along the edge of the field. I thought it would make an interesting painting.

While on a European trip we were traveling over a very hilly area. It had been raining and I was just saying to myself “wonderful view, to bad it’s raining’. Just as we came reached the top of the ridge, there, in front of me, was the sun peaking through the clouds illumination the valley floor below with beams of sunlight. Two quick photos captured the moment.
CHECKING THE POTS

Fulltime Lobstering is a lot of repetitive work. Lobster pots need to be checked every other day and rebaited as necessary. It’s not unusual for lobsters to escape from a pot so when checked the pots are often found empty of bait and lobster.

Many little coves dot the banks of the Connecticut River. It’s not uncommon to find small boats moored in them. This is a view looking east from one of those little coves on the western bank of the river.
SAILING AT THE SURF CLUB (OIL)
$2,200
Framed Size 26 x 32
One of the wonderful benefits of living in a shoreline community is its access to the water. Surf Club beach is one of several beautiful beaches here in Madison. One of its features is a dedicated area for Hobie Cats and other types of small water craft. My son owned a Hobie Cat that we kept down at the beach. It was always available for a fun day of sailing. Memories of those wonderful days on the water with my son inspired me to do this painting.

We have many lakes, ponds and marsh areas here in Connecticut. Spring and Fall are wonderful times to view the wide variety of birds that frequent these areas. Watching a small flock of Canadian Geese take off is quite a site and worthy of painting.

Along Ogunquit coastline is the beautiful Marginal Way, a wonderful walkway above the rocky beach. My wife and I visited this beautiful spot this past summer. As we walked, I must have stopped a thousand time to take photos. One image better than the other. It was difficult which to choose for a painting.
