Artist Statement

As many artists will tell you, we are inspired by light. I’ve always been fascinated by the way light can change what the eye sees. I’m a self-taught artist and feel most comfortable using pastels, but I have also dabbled in watercolor and recently began painting in oil. My goal is to capture what I’m seeing and reproduce it so that the viewer sees and feels the same image as they look at my painting. Each painting is a challenge to me to create that “magic” which goes beyond just a painting of an object or a landscape. For me, it comes down to recreating the light. When I am successful, the painting “pops” and the “magic” happens. I’ve always lived very near the water and, like many artist, I’m drawn to the sea. I love the way light and color reflections dance on the water. I hope you’ll enjoy perusing through my paintings and can feel what I’m trying to convey.
